Torsted Meadow Lake (Engsø)

Within walking distance from the center of Horsens lies this newly developed nature area—a marshland where a lake has been created. A marked route leads around the marsh along a footpath.

New nature area in Horsens

To the west of Horsens city center, not far from Bygholm Lake, lies this newly developed nature area. The area, consisting of wet meadows and grasslands, has become more attractive in recent years with the creation of a meadow lake, resulting in a rich animal and plant life; today, more birds and insects can be seen than before. The area is maintained by grazing sheep that roam freely in the large enclosed area between Sverigesvej, Sandøvej, and the railway.

Along with the establishment of the lake, a marked route was created, which is a 1.5-kilometer loop through the meadow area. The route primarily consists of footpaths and is shared with the grazing sheep. It’s a lovely little nature outing when you need some fresh air.

There are entrances to Torsted Meadow Lake from both Sverigesvej and Vågøvej/Sandøvej. If you are coming from the center, you can use the entrances at Sverigesvej. If you’re driving, you can park at the Søparken allotment association just east of the entrance at Sverigesvej.

Want to make the hike a bit longer?

Torsted Engsø is located just south of Bygholm Lake, and it is possible to combine the hike at Torsted Engsø with a trip down to the lake in Åbjergskoven.

Alternatively, you can follow Sverigesvej a couple of hundred meters south until you cross the railway tracks and meet a bike path. This path can lead to Østerhåbsvej, and from here, you can follow Børneskoven (The Children's Forest) in Torsted, which is a long, narrow strip of forest that makes for an excellent short hiking route.
