For the first time, tourism is included when VisitDenmark opens the doors to a small piece of Denmark during the Olympics in Paris. In addition to a wide range of companies and organizations that are part of the Danish showcase, several Danish destination companies will this year be part of promoting Denmark as a travel destination.

New for the 2024 Olympics is a focus on presenting Denmark as a travel destination. The French have become fond of Denmark, setting a record last year with 468,000 overnight stays, and other Southern European countries are following this trend.

“In recent years, we have noticed a significant increase in tourists from countries like Italy, Spain, and France. In these countries, we see a growing desire to head north away from the often very hot summers in Southern Europe. We have a strong connection to France via Billund Airport, which has daily connections to and from Paris,” says Martin Perregaard-Bitsch, Director of Destination Heart of Jutland.

Destination Heart of Jutland is one of six destinations participating in The Denmark Pavilion during the 17 days of the Olympics. At the pavilion on Champs-Élysée, you can also meet Wonderful Copenhagen, Destination Fyn, Destination the Wadden Sea, Destination Bornholm, and Destination Zealand, with all the destination companies sharing stories about what different parts of Denmark have to offer if you visit Denmark as a tourist or meeting attendee.

“Tourism has an undeniable significance for the Danish economy and for the offerings of culture and gastronomy in Denmark. In many parts of Denmark, tourism guarantees jobs and economic opportunities, and we continuously focus on conveying that all of Denmark is a wonderful place to visit – all year round,” explains Katja Moesgaard, CEO of VisitDenmark, which is responsible for promoting Denmark abroad and is hosting the pavilion in Paris during the Olympics.

About the Denmark Pavilion in Paris

During the Olympics in Paris, guests from around the world can visit a small piece of Denmark at Champs-Élysées for free. Here, they can discover Danish ideas that contribute to creating a better life and a better world. VisitDenmark, together with the Ministry of Business, is leading the initiative, supported by Realdania, Konsul George Jorck og Hustru Emma Jorck’s Foundation, and The Trade Council.
